Figwee Portion Explorer is a stirring way to discover the actual calories and nutritional value in food.

This app is visual, using over 28,000 photos of meticulously weighed portions.

And it’s really simple.

Just type a few letters to search, browse the matching photos, and then tap to select the food you want to check out.

Use a slider to adjust how much is in the bowl, on the plate, or in the glass, and Figwee animates the photos and updates the nutrition information on the fly.

If you use a calorie counter, and you don’t guess the portion correctly, are you getting the most out it?

Figwee visually answers question like: How many calories are in a “yea high mound” of pasta? What does “4.0 ounces” of hamburger look like? How many “servings” are in the bowl of cereal I eat every day?

Figwee works on iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad, in both portrait and landscape, and requires either a 3G or WiFi network connection.

The Figwee Portion Explorer is not in itself a calorie counter, nutrition tracker, or a weight loss system, but is great when used in conjunction with them.

Figwee also does not have a bazillion items trying to cover all of the brands on the planet. Figwee is simple and visual by design. If you type apple, steak, wine, bread, breakfast, cheese, or any one of 1500 other of the most common foods, you’ll find exactly what you need…quickly.

If you are serious about counting calories or evaluating nutrition, the most important thing to get right is the portion.

Figwee: Learn. Have Fun. Enjoy.

Pros and cons of Figwee Portion Explorer app for iPhone and iPad

Figwee Portion Explorer app good for

This is the best diet helper app that I have ever seen. Diets always use some obscure way of figuring out serving sizes, but this app uses pictures of the food in different portion sizes. Great idea and it works flawlessly.
Great app. I find it much more useful to see photos rather than try to visualize what a cup of a given ingredient looks like. Very easy to scale a portion up or down.
Hello, this is a great app, but it really need an update to be the best app. Please release the update.
App has not been updated in years. -Add more foods -Save favorites -Give an opportunity for crowd sourcing -Allow predictive text -squash a few bugs Regardless, I still use this app often. Where did you guys go???

Some bad moments

Inadequate. The app concept and photos are neat...but...this app is old and needs updated badly. There is only a small variety of foods in here, and the search function doesnt seem to work. I wouldnt recommend paying for this app in its current state. It needs updated/expanded badly, and I doubt some of the carb values too (e.g. the soft tacos).
Looked up lobster . . . no listing. So, I looked up seafood, and all sorts of items are listed including crab, mussels, etc., but once again, nothing for lobster. How ridiculous is that???
Admittedly I havent given this app much of a chance yet, but the fact that it doesnt have "chard" or "Swiss chard" is baffling. It also doesnt seem to have the capability for users to suggest additional foods.
Just purchased this app for my I-Phone and it was well worth the small price. The app give the nutritional info for a vareity of foods, so many in fact, that I ran out of foods to test out, they were all there! And, rather then just typing in a number, theres a clever little arrow that lets you control the portion size. All this is done visually which makes it unique and fun (check out what happens when you pile up the bacon on the plate). For someone who needs a little visual stimulation while monitoring your daily calories and nutrition, or if you just want to "play" with your food a little, this is a GREAT app!!!
I really like the pictures. It puts portions into perspective.
Ive used figwees portioner on their website for about a year. Of course I was excited to see this app come out. It is very easy to use, has fluid screen changes and has clear, quick-loading pictures. I love the concept and I love this tool, putting it on my iPhone just makes me love it more. Thanks for a great app!
